Halfway through December, we are squarely in the holiday season mindset. Holiday parties, Christmas decorations, gift exchanges, every email ending with season’s greetings, some people already off until the new year…
There’s a striking contrast of some rushing to finish all of December’s sales and work before close of play, and others resigned to the idea that nothing gets done in this month. Either way, it is safe to say that business is different in December.
How do you feel about the way your company deals with December and the holidays? Is it working for you? Is it working for the business?
We hear horror stories about:
🎁 Thoughtless company branded gift bags
🍾 Boozy office parties full of excessive drinking and inappropriate behaviour.
📆 Keeping employees at work until late on Christmas Eve or scuppering a holiday by enforcing shifts in between Christmas and New Years.
…And the list goes on.
On the other hand, some companies do lovely things to celebrate their workers:
🛫 Flexible hours, remote working, or even bonus days off to accommodate employees holiday plans
🤑 Holiday bonuses to help fund Christmas gift shopping
👏 Thoughtful recognition and gratitude towards employees for their efforts this year
🎉 Fun, festive activities that bring people together
