Safeguarding

Code of Conduct, Ethics and Performance

The Comlementary and Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC) was set up by the UK government as an independant body to protect the public by setting the standards of conduct for practitioners in the UK. Although Embrace Connections is not registered with CNHC, we are still committed to upholding the standards from their code of conduct as they apply to our practices, listed below. See their code of conduct for more details.

  • Respect clients’ dignity, individuality and privacy
  • Respect clients’ rights to be involved in decisions about their care
  • Justify public trust by being honest and trustworthy
  • Provide a good standard of practice and care
  • Protect clients and colleagues from risk of harm
  • Co-operate with colleagues from your own and other practices

Risk Assessment and Mitigation

At present, the type of services offered by Embrace Connections are not regulated by any governing body in the UK. This state of affairs is unfortunate. Although it does not affect the chances of harm or danger to the practitioner or the client, it does mean there are fewer protections in place for all parties if a situation arises. We do the our best to mitigate this risks through awareness, strict professional boundaries, and clear communication, in addition to adhering to the CNHC Code of Conduct described above.

Here is some information from Mind to consider when engaging with “alternative” solutions.

Referring Clients. We reserve the right to screen clients before choosing to work with them. If the client’s needs are poorly aligned with our services, we will redirect them to other forms of support like psychotherapy, GPs, emergency mental healthcare providers, etc. If a current client begins to require support outside our scope, we will refer them to suitable qualified services.

In case of mental health emergency, see this list of services from Mind.

Some vulnerable people are more at risk of transference and overdependence on external support. The scope of these prfessional relationships must be closely monitored, to keep it within healthy, safe boundaries.

Treasure has a DBS valid as of September 2024.

Personal Relationships

In order to protect clients and myself, I commit to maintain safe, professional relationships with clients and workshop attendees. My rules of engagement with clients is as follows:

I will not develop any kind of personal relationship with a current client.

If I encounter a current client outside of our professional dynamic, I will not initiate an interaction. I will respond in kind if they greet me, and maintain the level of communication set by the client.

After a period of 3 months from the end of a professional relationship, I am open to friendship with a previous client.. We will communicate about the effect of our power dynamic and its possible impact. After a period of 1 year from the end of our professional relationship, by default I will no longer maintain any unecessary supplementary conditions on how I relate to past clients. If either the past client or I desire to maintain restrictions based on our past professional relationship, we will do so.

During workshops, all attendees are treated equally regardless of the nature of our relationship outside of the workshop. I will not leverage my power as a workshop spaceholder to influence my relationship with attendees.

Complaints

If for whatever reason you wish to raise a concern, here is the process. I am open to feedback, criticism and learning oportunities.

  • Raise it to me directly using whatever platform feels most comfortable: email, direct message, phone call, face-to-face, etc.
    • I will send an acknowledgement of your concern within 48 hours.
    • We will endeavour to meet via phone, video call or in person within two weeks to review the situation, discuss the issue, and explore possible solutions.
    • I will send a written report within 10 business days, including a restatement of the issue by my understanding, our next steps and suggestions, and an apology if apropriate.
  • Send me an anonymous message here. I cannot reply to these messages.
  • If you wish to escalate a complaint or go directly to a 3rd party, I am researching alternative solutions to offer. Details will be published here when they are available.
